The Third and Final Glimpse of Bhutan - The Punakha Dromche

Saturday 8th March
Breakfast, then pack as today is a busy day, we are going to the Punakha Dromche and need to be there early to get a good view but we only have a few hours as we have to be on the road, back to Paro, to get past the roadworks as they will be closing the road for 2-3 hours!

The Dromche was a spectacular event with their own traditional dance and ceremony. It was very colourful and good to see the locals attending. I could really have got carried away with the camera but in the end I just tried to concentrate on certain aspects.

Look at those shoes - wow!

The Big Boss...

I recognise these guys and gals.

You looking at me!

Very serene dancers...

Esang our guide left and Gimble our driver right.

Off to Thimphu for lunch at Yangki's, this was the third time we had eaten at Zasa and it was again a great feast. Her staff are very friendly and really look after the guests.

Tonight we had a farewell friends dinner as the majority of the group were heading back to Bangkok. There were tears, speeches and gift presentations, and naturally a few photos were taken...

Girls and their bracelets...
Sunday 9th March
Breakfast and then we all went to Paro airport where Leslie and I said our goodbyes to the gang. As you can only enter the airport if you are flying we went to the "Viewing Point" to watch them board the plane and take off. It was 'Bye bye Melina and Co.' See the photos.

Melina finally leaving the tarmac...
Starting to takeoff with the Dzong in the background.

Up, up and away - bye bye to our Bhutan group.
We then went for a coffee before going to the farmers market to see the local produce, etc. Took a couple of snaps and then went for a lunch.
Chili anyone?
Spices!
A mix of very fresh vegetables for sale.
Back to Janka and I decided to do some blogging notes as I'm always behind. Leslie went with Esang to see some textiles, etc. In the evening it was a hot stone bath before dinner.

Monday 10th March
Breakfast was just Leslie and I as we are off to the airport to catch a flight to Kathmandu in Nepal. Our flight was delayed an hour due to the weather conditions in Kathmandu. There were some good views of the Himalayas but as I had left my camera in my bag in the overhead locker I'll just have to remember them in my head.

The next instalment will be Kathmandu in Nepal...
